Gloria Butterworth Stevens

April 12, 1953 ~ May 16, 2016 (age 63) 63 Years Old

Gloria Butterworth Stevens

Macedon: Gloria Butterworth Stevens was born April 12, 1953 and died of pancreatic cancer on May 16, 2016.  She is predeceased by her father Willard E. Butterworth in 1991 and a nephew Donald E. Butterworth in 2008.  She is survived by her husband John Stevens of Macedon NY, her mother, Gloria A Butterworth of Macedon NY, a brother Donald F. (Mary Ann) Butterworth of Mooresville, NC, nieces Christine (Will) Chadwick of Morehead City NC, Michelle (Lionel) Gruslin of Mooresville, NC, nephew Brent (Amanda) Butterworth of Waxhaw, NC, lifelong friends Doris Manzo, Patricia Manzo, Valerie (Buck) Dean and Maureen Catallano of Huntington NY, her mother in law Katherine Stevens of Niskayuna NY, her sister in law Kim Stevens of Niskayuna NY and step-son PO1 Michael (Yumi) Stevens of Honolulu HI.  She leaves her two devoted Brittany Spaniels Annie and Brandy.

Gloria was born in Queens NY, living in North Weare NH and Guilderland NY in her youth.  She graduated from Guilderland High School in 1971.  She had a fascination for and made it a hobby to have knowledge of classic 60-70’s large block American cars.  There is a picture of her as Miss Corvette in 1971.  She worked for a period of time in Albany NY as an Executive Administrative Assistant for the Republican Party, and in various roles for the Department of Environmental Conservation (ENCON), ATT and Bell South.  She moved to Lighthouse Point FL and the West Palm Beach area, before returning to Schenectady NY. Gloria was a volunteer driver for NBRAN the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network, and took great pride in assisting dogs of all ages on western NY legs of the pony-express like ride across the states to facilitate them into rescue and forever homes.  As a homemaker, she enjoyed extensive seasonal decorations and always went into high gear for Christmas.  She enjoyed helping John with their projects at the home they made in Macedon which she gave the moniker “Area 26”.  She held amateur radio license K2GAB and was a member of the Rochester VHF Group and Rochester DX Association. She enjoyed and encouraged the music of the Swamp Road String Band that would gather periodically at Area 26, and enthusiastically played the cowbell in approval after each song they played, more-so if it was done well.  She was a hard core supporter of the music of Joe LaMay and Sherri Reese, best friends who relocated to Kentucky from the area, and appears on one of their recordings as a background vocal.  She and John enjoyed travel camping in their RV, visiting states on the path to destinations in Maine, New Hampshire, Tennessee, Kentucky and Texas.  On one of their trips through Roswell NM she strapped an inflatable space alien to the hood of their RV and brought it back to Area 26 because it “needed a proper home”.  They also travelled internationally to Germany and Ireland, as well as Pleumer-Bodu France and Cambridge England to attend conferences in radio astronomy related topics.

Gloria wished to thank Dr. Stephen Ignaczak and the other doctors, nurses and staff of Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic, Dr. Brian Yirinic and the nurses of the Pluta Cancer Center, and Dr Sussman, the 8th, 5th and 4th floor nurses and patient care technicians of the Strong Memorial /Wilmot Cancer Center along with Lifetime Care nurse Geordie Walters for their kindness and sensitive care.  John and Gloria would also like express sincere thanks to Pastor Carol Holtz-Martin and the members of the First Baptist Church of Macedon for their unwavering prayers, comfort and support, and special friend Laurie Leenhouts for her many kindnesses during the time Gloria has been in need.

Family and friends may join for calling on Saturday (May 21) from 2-5 PM at the funeral chapel, 1040 rte. 31 Macedon, NY 14502.  Gloria’s memorial service will be held on Sunday (May 22) at 3 PM at First Baptist Church of Macedon, 58 W. Main St., Macedon, NY 14502.  Interment will be made in the Macedon Village Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations are made to the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network (NBRAN) through www.nbran.org or Lollypop Farm in Fairport NY through www.lollypop.org in her name. Online condolences can be left at www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
