My sincerest sympathy to the entire Leenhouts family. When I remember Norm I think of the word "immense". He was someone who had an immense love for his family, his church and those he came into contact with. He was a remarkable man who will be missed by many. He served others with great humility and modeled that servant leadership in his daily life before others. He, with his wife Arlene, touched countless lives in quiet ways that impacted those lives profoundly. I was honored to have known him.

Norman was an honorable and gentle soul in an industry too frequently filled with egomaniacs. He touched many. I will always remember being in early meetings with Norman when he was at Home Properties of New York. Amy would refer to "Dad" in the meetings. Only time that has ever happened in my professional career. Amy, very sorry for the loss of "Dad".

It’s very difficult for me to write this, as I never thought this day would come. We’ve all lost loved ones, and even when the end is expected, it’s never easy for family and friends to accept the loss. I offer my condolences to all of Norman’s family and friends, and pray that Norman’s spirit will support us all through this sad time. That being said, I know that Norman would want us to carry on with life as usual, and not be sad. I’m sure those who met Norman for the first time, as I did back in 1998 when Home Properties acquired my former company, were immediately impressed with his demeanor, intelligence, and good nature. It was Norman and Nelson’s philosophy about how to run a business, and treat people, that made Home Properties a great public company, and a fantastic place to work. Because of that philosophy, every day at work, we always felt at “Home”, and strived to follow Norman’s leadership example. To say that Norman will be missed, is a gigantic understatement. Everyone who knew Norm came to admire and love him. So many have benefitted from his and Arlene's generosity and philanthropy.....but what we especially loved about Norm was his genuine interest and appreciation for He efforts of others. He was always so encouraging of the work he saw other people doing. He was a cheerleader for other businesses and for those engaging in missions or any other labor that was done for Jesus. Norm was a champion and encourager for others especially when they were experiencing life challenges. He lived his life by 'trusting in the Lord with all of his heart and he didn't rely solely on his own understanding. He acknowledged God in all he did and God did indeed direct his paths....' we are so sorry to say goodbye to our wonderful friend (for a short time) but Norm has entered into the joy that awaited him with the Lord He loves so much...we are confident that today he is restored and vibrant and fully engaged as a citizen of Heaven.

I also lost my dad, Laurie, and I had cried so much, then God asked me,
"Are you remembering that old man?" and I sobbed, "Yes."
Then he showed me an image of my dad as God saw him. This
man looked about 20, had a full head of dark hair, and then I
gasped. Why, my dad looked more like my brother! Young
and handsome! I started laughing for joy while I was sobbing
for grief, what a hiccupy combination. Just to remind you, Norman
is not dead. He is more full of life at this point than he has ever been
here. He is simply missing. For a while. We will see him again, sooner
than we think. Your dad has done wonderfully well while on earth.
Thank God for Him, and for His love in Norman's life. To Norman's
