Shirley Martens Chace

Palmyra, NY/Collinsville, OK

 Friends and family of Shirley Martens Chace, age 86, of Collinsville, OK  who passed away surrounded by family at 8:05 Wednesday, October 25th, 2017, are invited to gather on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 2-4 PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 123 East Jackson Street, Palmyra, NY 14522.  Private interment will take place at Palmyra Cemetery.  Shirley was born June 14th (Flag Day), 1931 to parents Frank John Martens and Alice Gress Martens. She lived most of her life in Palmyra, NY. She worked at Mobile Chemical in Macedon, NY until her retirement and then moved to Las Vegas with her second husband, James D. Chace.  After approximately five years, Shirley then moved to Bloomington, IN where she lived close to her son, Richard. In 2012 she then moved to Sand Springs, OK to be close to some of her other children. Shirley loved reading, playing the penny slots, watching tennis, and playing bingo, as well as enjoying the company of many friends and family. She will be remembered fondly.

 

Shirley is survived by her five children; Janice (Anthony) Turner, Victoria (Dale) Webb, Elizabeth (Geno) DeRycke, Frank Stuart Hammond, and Richard (Ann) Hammond. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; Scott DeRycke, Samantha (Timothy) Ensell, Jennifer Rayno, Morgan Webb, Matthew (Ashton) DeRycke, Alex Webb, Matthew Lockridge, Maxine Webb, Elijah Hammond, Sarah Hammond, Rebecca Hammond, Seth Hammond, Grace Hammond, and Emma Hammond. As well as seven great grandchildren; Alexander Ensell, Ellison DeRycke, Alice Ensell, Sawyer DeRycke, Benjamin Murray, and Beau Baker James DeRycke.  She also has many nephews and nieces.

 

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Frank John and Alice Gress Martens, and brothers and sisters Grace Martens, Gladys Green, Raymond Martens, and David Martens, as well as her husband James D. Chace.

 

Johnson Funeral Home, Sperry, OK (www.johnsonsperry.com) handled the arrangements in Oklahoma.  Special thanks to North County Nursing Home and Cura Hospice for the love and care given to our mother during the last year.
