Passed away on January 30, 2017 at the age of 74.  He was born in Rochester, NY on September 13, 1942 to the late Adelbert and Marian "Wilcox" Murphy.  Steve was predeceased by his son Michael  on February 10, 2012.  He is survived by his wife of 31 years, and high school sweetheart, Mary Lou "Hall" Murphy; former wife, Margaret "Trapp" Murphy; son, Daniel (Amanda) Murphy of Arlington, Virginia; daughter-in-law Kris Murphy; grandsons, Collin and Shaun Murphy all of Palmyra, NY; many cousins and friends.

Steve served his country through the United States Army.

Steve was brought up in Ontario, NY and lived at his families funeral home located on Ridge Road.  He was a graduate of the Simmons School of Mortuary Science, located in Syracuse, NY.  He served his apprenticeship in Queens, NY, and upon completion, he became licensed and returned back to his family business in Ontario, NY.  Steve grew his business and over the years had many acquisitions that included the McGuire/Hargrave Funeral Home of Palmyra, NY, the Cady, Mate and Sinclair Funeral Home of Palmyra, NY and the Payne/Nulton Funeral Home of Macedon, NY.  Today, these businesses all operate under the name of Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, LLC of Ontario, Palmyra and Macedon, NY.  Steve was joined by his son, Michael after he graduated from Simmons Institute of Funeral Service (1991) and completed his residency in Greece, NY.  Together, they worked to serve the community and build upon the reputation started with Adelbert Murphy.   Sadly, Michael passed away suddenly on February 10, 2012.  Steve continued to keep active in his family business along with his "funeral family" until his passing.  He was a member of the Rochester Genesee Valley Funeral Directors Association and Selected Independent Funeral Directors.  Steve was a very civic minded man.  He was the past president, secretary/treasurer, and life member of the Ontario Volunteer Fire Company; O.E.M.
