Ramona Collins Obituary

Palmyra - Ramona (Goulden) Collins was born December 18, 1930, in Potsdam, NY. Growing up in the North Country, she enjoyed tapping maple trees and making syrup. She loved being a Girl Scout and had fond memories of hiking, camping, canoeing, volunteering at blood drives during WWII, and earning badges – especially woodworking. In 1947, she earned the Curved Bar, the highest award in Girl Scouts. She was an excellent ice skater, who also loved watching any and all skating events. She enjoyed sewing and made beautiful, embroidered pillowcases, wall pieces, and quilts for family and friends. She enjoyed baking and always had warm cookies and pies for visitors. She was a lifelong Episcopalian and an 80 year member of Zion Episcopal Church where she taught church school for over 30 years. Ramona was selected as Palmyra “mother of the year” in 1970. She will always be remembered for the care and attention she gave to children at church, babysitting, Cub Scouts, and Girl Scouts.

Ramona was predeceased by her loving husband John. They were inseparable for over 50 years. They enjoyed camping, working on their home, and most of all, being with their family.

Ramona is survived by her 3 children, Susan Kohlmeier (Chuck), Sharon Trant (Jerry), and John Collins; very special niece and goddaughter Lori Goulden Byrne (Hugues); grandchildren, Carrie Trant Frazee (Sonny), Nathan Kohlmeier, Chelsea Trant Ellis (Casey), Shannon Trant LaMarre (Robert), Ryn Kohlmeier, and Patrick Trant; a special ‘first grandchild’, Owen Campbell; great grandchildren, Ramona, Judith, and Elias Kohlmeier; sister, Wanda Goulden Port (Al); brother, Harold Goulden (MaryAnn) and two other brothers; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Jeff Goulden.

A special thank you to Pines of Peace comfort care home where Ramona received loving care the last few months of her life. Thank you to all the meals on wheels volunteers who brought kindness along with lunch.

A funeral service will be held at Zion Episcopal Church, 120 E Main St, Palmyra, on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 11 AM. Ramona will be laid to rest in Palmyra Village Cemetery.
