George J. DeGroote

Ontario: George passed away on November 28, 2017 at age 87.  He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Helen DeGroote.  George is survived by his sons, David (Jane) DeGroote and Richard (Cynthia) DeGroote; grandchildren, Dr. Jessica (Phil) Nelson, Douglas DPT (Rebecca DPT) DeGroote, John DeGroote; great granddaughter, Ella Reed DeGroote and Amelia Jane DeGroote; siblings, Jake DeGroote, Dolores Dillon and Thomas DeGroote; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He was a graduate of Williamson High School.  George loved to travel with his family to different parts of the country, where they would visit different baseball stadiums and enjoy watching games.  Most of all, George enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Dodgers.  George would always attend and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play various sports.  He would often travel with their teams to watch them play at different schools.  George also enjoyed tending his own garden as well as gardening with his daughter-in-law, Jane.  Other hobbies included woodworking, where he would make many different items for his family.  Above all, George loved his family and enjoyed being with them.

A memorial service for George will be held on Saturday (December 2) at 3 PM at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1973 Ridge Rd., Ontario, NY 14519, where a remembrance luncheon will follow.  Private burial will take place in Furnaceville Cemetery.  Contributions in George’s name may be directed to the church.  To leave the family an online message, please visit www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
