Canandaigua: Joyce died on October 16, 2017 at age 89, under the caring staff of M.M Ewing Continuing Care Center.  She was born in Binghamton to the late Byron and Sarah DeLaney, and raised her family in Elbridge, NY.  Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Chester “Chet” Ayers; son, Westley Ayers; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.  She is survived by her children, Jane (James Clark) Ayers, Mindy (Mike) Smart, Sarah (Marvin) Spence and Bradley Ayers; grandchildren, Madelyn Clark, Connor and Logan Smart, Cody, Leland and Javaughn Spence; great grandson, Romen Spence; many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. 

Joyce loved and adored her family.  As a homemaker, Joyce fostered important core values with her children, such as a love of reading and learning; integrity in what is said and done; and the importance of giving back to others.  She continued that same care as she took care of her grandchildren. Reading, listening to music and knitting were among some of her hobbies.  She will be dearly missed by her family.
