Ann Baxter Schmitt, 79, of Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully while on Hospice at St. Ann's nursing home on November 25, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born on August 30, 1946, in Rochester NY, Ann was the daughter of Bernard & Monica Hoffman. Growing up in Irondequoit, she graduated from Nazareth Academy and then Isabella Graham Heart with an LPN degree in nursing and dedicated many years to caring for patients at St. Ann's nursing home, where she was known for her compassion and steady presence. She then finished her career at Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield and Lifetime Care.
Ann married her beloved husband, Donald Baxter, in 1968 and together they raised two children until his passing in 1986. She married again in 1989 to Charles Schmitt, where they enjoyed 31 years of love and adventure. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved quilting, traveling, spending time with family and volunteering at her church. Her warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone she met.
She is survived by her daughters Kristine Murphy and Kimberly (Michael) Cahill; grandchildren Ashley, Collin (Grace), Amanda, Shaun & Hannah; and her sisters Marylou (Harold) Gorman, Joan (John) Paquette, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husbands, Donald Baxter and Charles Schmitt, son-in-law, Michael Murphy and step-son, Jeffrey Schmitt.
Ann will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her dedication to nursing, and her love of family & friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, December 1st, 10:30 AM at Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd., Rochester, NY. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rochester Regional Home Care & Hospice, www.rochesterregional.org/giving and Mike Murphy's Dollars for Scholars at Pal-Mac. 127 Cuyler St., Palmyra, NY 14522.
