Barbara L. "Betty" Gefell:

Macedon: Passed away on November 27, 2024, at the age of 87.  Barbara was born in Rochester, New York to the late Melchior and Linda "Benkert" Roth.  She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Paul (her high school sweetheart); four children, sons Paul M. (Carolyn), Gary (Michele), Greg (Jean) Gefell, and daughter Laurie (Richard) Forbes; her sister, Linda Horrigan; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Barb was a long-time employee of both Stromberg Carlson and Harris Seed. She also worked many part time jobs and enjoyed many years as a stay-at-home mom. Barb loved entertaining and over the years, she hosted many dinner parties for her large family and many friends.  She was a dedicated volunteer at Oliver House in Penn Yan for many years.  She was also an avid reader of books and enjoyed league bowling through the years. She enjoyed doing crafts and was a 20-year member of her Hobby Box craft group in Mendon, where she made many long-time friends. Barb's special joy was holding frequent garage sales with her dear friend, Frieda.  Barb loved animals and had many beloved cats and dogs throughout her lifetime.  She also enjoyed gardening and loved to travel, making many trips around the US, visiting all 50 states, and touring Ireland, Italy and Germany. Barb was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor, even though sometimes she didn't get the joke.

Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours, at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1040 State Route 31, Macedon, NY 14502, Friday, January 10, 2025, from 5-7 PM.  A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Catherine's Church, 26 Mendon-Ionia Rd, Mendon, NY 14506 on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation in Barbara's memory to the charity of your choice, or please consider a donation to the Victor-Farmington Volunteer Ambulance, Farmington Volunteer Fire Association , or Lollypop Farm .  Please visit the tribute wall of Barb's obituary at www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
