Obituary

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Clifford R Burnette, a father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on March 23, 2026, at the age of 82. Clifford was surrounded by the love of his family in his final days at Light Hill Home in Canandaigua, where the compassionate staff provided him with dignity and care.

Born on January 11, 1944, in the quaint town of Ogdensburg, NY, Clifford was the beloved son of Donald Burnette and Anna Havens Burnette. His journey through life was marked by a steadfast dedication to his family, his country, and his passions. Clifford was a proud US Army veteran, having served his nation with honor and distinction. His experiences in the military instilled in him a deep sense of duty and resilience, qualities that he carried with him throughout his life.

Fifty-nine years ago, Clifford married the love of his life, Suzanne St Denny. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering support. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and it served as a beacon of inspiration to all who knew them.

Clifford was a devoted father to his three children: Jim, John, and Martha. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and was a guiding light in their lives. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and Lyndsay who brought him boundless joy and who will carry forward his spirit with grace and love.

In addition to his immediate family, Clifford’s siblings Donna, Gerrie, Anita, Juanita, Tom, Edward, Robert, David, Tim, Jeffrey and Dan have many shared memories and bonds that provided a lifetime of companionship and support.

One of Clifford's greatest pleasures was walking in the woods, a hobby that connected him to nature and offered him peace and reflection. These walks were a time for him to appreciate the simple beauty of the world, a perspective he imparted to his family and friends.

The Burnette family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Light Hill Home in Canandaigua. Their kindness and dedication during Clifford's final days were a source of comfort and solace.

As we remember Clifford, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, service, and the enduring ties of family. His legacy of resilience, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

At a later date, a private graveside service will be held in his honor, where family and close friends will gather to pay their respects and share in the memories of a remarkable man who touched many lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Light Hill Home in Canandaigua in Clifford's memory.

Rest in peace, dear Clifford. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
