David went home to the Lord on February 10, 2026, following his journey with cancer. He was 71 years old. He was predeceased by his parents, A. Allen and Nancy C. Herendeen.
David is survived by his siblings, Kathleen Suhr, Carol (Steven) Zientara, and Ronald (Donna) Herendeen; nieces and nephews, Raya (Michael) Plate, Aaron (Lindsay) Suhr, Carrie (Richard) Parmeter, Angela (Norris) Knight, Michael (Valeena) Herendeen, Jennifer Herendeen, Marianne (Thomas) King, Kevin Herendeen, Jill Norsen, Matthew Norsen; many grand and great grand nieces and nephews; aunts, Berneice Herendeen, Joanne Herendeen, Emma Herendeen; uncle, Stanley (Karen) Herendeen; and many cousins.
David graduated from Victor High School. He marched with and directed the Farmington Firebirds band, marching with the Farmington Fire Department. At his home church, Farmington Friends Meeting, David sang in the choir, accompanied the Jr. choir, taught Sunday School, and worked with the youth fellowship. David earned his bachelor's degree in music at Potsdam State College, NY, and his master's in divinity at Earlham College, Indiana. David held pastorates at Friends Meetings in Indiana, Illinois, and New York.
David served on many committees of the New York Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.
David's life was one of faith and service. He believed firmly in the testimonies of peace and social justice that included equality, fairness, unity, and inclusion of all people. David loved his hometown of Farmington, his family and their rich family history, and Farmington Friends Meeting. He loved coming home to re-connect with family and friends.
A burial service will be held at the North Farmington Cemetery (behind the Friends Meetinghouse, 187 County Road 8, Farmington, NY) on March 28th at 10:00am.
A Celebration of Life Service will follow in the Farmington Friends Meetinghouse sanctuary at 11:00am.
Family and friends are invited to a reception with the family in the Commons Room of the church following the service.
