Obituary

Debra passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, January 12th, 2021.  Born in Penn Yan on June 9th, 1954 to the late Donald and Eleanor Curbeau, she is also predeceased by her mother-in-law, Shirley "Salit" Weiss, and father-in-law, Morton Weiss.  She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Jeffrey Weiss.  Debra was a loving mother to Kevin (Valerie) Weiss, Brian Weiss and Megan Weiss; and a dedicated dog mom to miss Maya Button.  An adoring grandmother to her granddaughter Sophie, nothing made her happier than seeing little Sophie's smiling face, and taking every opportunity to love and spoil her.  Debra is also survived by her sisters Donna (Carl) Hammond and Diane (Gene) Roberts, her brother Marsh (Karen) Wren, several nieces and nephews and many loving, caring family and friends.

Debra graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1972, followed by a BA in Psychology from SUNY Oswego in 1976.  After marrying Jeffrey, in October 1977, she spent a year working as a senior bank teller for National Bank of Westchester in White Plains, NY, followed by two years at Columbia National Bank in Fairport, NY.  After over 20 years raising her children, she returned to work as a teacher's aide at Richard Mann Elementary School from Fall 2005 to Spring 2016.  Every night she shared stories about her students and, even after she retired, loved seeing them "all grown up" around the community.

Debra volunteered with the Macedon Food Pantry, located in St. Patrick's church, where she was a faithful parishioner for almost 40 years.  Her faith was the touchstone of her life.  She always believed everything she went through was part of God's great plan. Directly involved with her children's activities in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, she served as a loving, compassionate Troop Leader and enjoyed many years acting as "Cookie Mom" for her daughter's troop.  In her free time, Debra loved scrapbooking, gardening and filling her home with antiques and country-chic décor. Her home continues to symbolize her steadfast love, warmth and security felt by all who gather around her table during holidays and family celebrations.

Debra's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Lipson Cancer Institute, Dr. Kramer, Dr. Tibbens-Scalzo and all their teams for their exceptional support and care.

A private funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church. Interment will take place at White Haven Memorial Park.  Contributions in Debra's memory may be directed to the Lipson Cancer Institute at https://www.rrhgive.org/find-a-cause/lipson-cancer-institute or Foodlink at 1999 Mt.
