IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Withey
Maitland
July 18, 1937 – May 1, 2014
Donald Withey Maitland
Palmyra: Passed away on Thursday May 1, 2014 at age 76. Donald was predeceased by his parents, Jesse A. and Margaret E. Maitland. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Jane "Pip" Maitland; children, Ann M. (Peter) Ghyzel, Katherine C. (Dave Calder) Maitland and Jason R. (Janet) Maitland; grandchildren, Allison W. Ghyzel, Katherine J. Ghyzel and Austin J. Maitland; brothers, James M. (Dorothy) and John C. (Angela) Maitland; best friend, Cooper.
Donald always put his family first, and thoroughly enjoyed helping others. He worked for Security Trust Company, and retired as the manager of the Empire Blvd. branch in E. Irondequoit after 20 years. He went on to work for BOCES 1 in the transportation department as a bus driver and attendant, ensuring the safe travel of countless students with disabilities for over twenty years.
Donald was a man of incredible patience, exemplified by his decade's long unwavering support for the Buffalo Bills, a passion that he shared with his daughter Katie and anyone inclined to discuss football with him. Donald remained actively involved in the lives of his entire family, and conversations with his brothers John "Cork" and Jim "Buckle" were always filled with unbridled belly laughter and chortling. He had a gift of connecting with all types of people on a very personal level.
He showed his family fierce strength and good nature throughout his recent stay in the hospital. He will be missed by anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Friends may join the family for a celebration of Donald's life on Wednesday (May 7 th ) from 4-7 PM at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 1040 Route 31, Macedon, NY. A burial will take place in Bradford, PA at a later date. Contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of Wayne County or Camp Good Days and Special Times, in Donald's memory.
