Lunenburg, MA: On April 25, 2016, passed peacefully with her family by her side after a brief illness. Dorothy was born on Easter Sunday, April 21, 1930 in Rochester, NY. to the late John and Helen (Tyler) Parsons. She was predeceased by her husband of forty eight years, Jon F. West, their son, Michael Jon West, her sister, Linda L.Vent, brother, John (Bill) Parsons and great grandson, Ethan Hanson. She is survived by her children, Vicki (Bob) Spencer, Rick (Christine) Middleton, Melissa (Dan) Williams, Marsha (Don) Gravino and Susan West; her grandchildren, Jessica Middleton, Courtney (Paul) Lahr, Zachary (Sarah) Middleton, Cody Spencer, Victoria Spencer, Loretta Spencer, Katherine Spencer, Stephanie (James) Hanson, Trevor Williams, Samantha (Christiaan) Polovitch, Nicholas Gravino, Corey Gravino and eleven great grandchildren. Dorothy had several nieces and nephews and numerous extended family and friends who will fondly remember her sense of humor and the fun times they had together.
Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Palmyra Classical High School and lived much of her life in Palmyra, NY before moving to Acton, MA in 1977. She spent the last ten years of her life in Lunenburg, MA with her daughter, Susan and their four beloved cats. Dorothy was an accomplished genealogist compiling a massive amount of records of her and her husband's family trees for at least forty years. Dorothy enjoyed gardening and had many beautiful flowers and shrubs at her home in Acton, MA. She was an avid hockey fan and especially followed the Boston Bruins and was also a Boston Red Sox fan. She loved to read, especially mysteries, and also liked to take rides around New England and explore new restaurants and shops. Her large family and her cats were the center of her world and she will be greatly missed by them.
Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Dorothy's life at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Murphy Funeral and Cremation Chapel, 123 E. Jackson Street, Palmyra, NY 14522 with inurnment to follow at Palmyra Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to the animal shelter of your choice.
