Obituary

Ontario – Doug passed away on November 27, 2024, he was 53 years young. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Carolyn and Ruben Dye, and his father, Douglas Crane. Doug is survived by his wife, Carin Switzer; children, Christopher (Stephanie), Robert (Courtney), Brandon (Taylor), and Allison (Shane); grandchildren, Jacob, Timothy, Cylee, Isaac, Adriana, Landon, Kaedon, Emerson, Greyson, Gavin, Khloe, Lillie, Piper, Bryleigh, Madilynn, Elzy, and Callie; parents, Rick and Cathy Switzer; siblings, Brandi (Jamie), Tara, William (Melissa), and Meagan; many nieces, nephews, and other family members, and friends who became family.

Doug was the epitome of a hardworking, dedicated family man. It all started when he was 19 years old, living in his first apartment in Webster. As most 19-year-olds in their first apartment do, Doug was throwing a rager, complete with the keg in the tub. Little did Doug know, the pumping of the keg awoke his neighbor, Carin, and her young son, Christopher. The first interaction Doug and Carin had was Carin pounding on the door, madder than a wet bee, and when Doug answered the door, all 6'2" monstrosity of a man that he was, he was faced with a tiny woman, yelling at him like he was 4' tall. He instantly fell in love with she and Christopher. He moved into her apartment a week later. 34 years of love, 24 years of marriage, 4 amazing children, and 17 grandchildren later, Doug and Carin made a strong family, filled with love. Some couples fight and bicker to no end, and Doug and Carin were no exception. They constantly fought, but they fought about the most important thing, who loved the other more. Carin said she is going to miss him annoying her on purpose the most.

Doug completed his education in 1989. He worked as a plastic injection molder since he was 18 years old. During this time, he played softball and was on many teams, even this last season. He had a true love for softball and passed this down to his children. He was very proud to play softball alongside many friends and all of his children. Even with him working, taking care of things at home, playing on multiple softball teams, he ALWAYS made sure to show up for every single game, event, and field trip for his children and for his grandchildren. He had a passion for Microds, and was a crew member of Sodus Microd Club, which some of his grandchildren are a part of. It meant the world to them that he was always there to support them. Doug spent a lot of time with his grandchildren, and he is so proud of them and the good people and parents that his children have become. He showed up to every birthday party, every celebration, and every time anyone called on him. Those who knew Doug knew that he was the very first person to offer to help, to give support, and if it came down to it, give you the shirt off his back. He will be missed by all that knew him. The family would like to thank everyone for their support and kind words during this dreadful time. Doug was truly a good man.
