Elizabeth J. Green: age 100 of Starbuck, MN and formerly of Palmyra, NY
Died Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5th at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home Commons with Pastor Ted Graf officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Newark Cemetery in New York. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Elizabeth Johanna Green was born September 24, 1916 in East Palmyra, New York. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Vassuer) Christiaansen. Elizabeth grew up in New York and attended school in Williamson and later Marion, New York until she was 16 and had to quit school and started working for Mott's Applesauce Canning Factory to help her family.
On August 15, 1936, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Isaac DeLyser. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Betty and Shirley. The couple lived in Palmyra, New York and ran the Flying Red Horse, a mobile service station. Elizabeth and Isaac shared 22 years of marriage before Isaac passed away in 1958.
On August 20, 1968, Elizabeth married a family friend, Charles Green. Elizabeth and Charles were married for 10 years before Charles passed away May 25, 1979.
Elizabeth was employed several places while living in New York. She was employed at Palmyra Manufacturing Factory, the Palmyra Home Diner, Stromberg Carlson in Rochester, NY, with her most current employment before retirement being at Crosman Arms in Bloomfield, NY.
After a major surgery left Elizabeth needing daily care she moved from Canandaigua, NY to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, Minnesota to be closer to several of her grandchildren. She continued to reside there until she passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016, just one week after turning 100 years old.
Elizabeth enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, drawing and plastic canvas. When she was younger, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in her yard and camping. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Betty Fernaays of Starbuck, MN and Shirley (David) Millsap of Fort Worth, TX; 9 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren; several step-children and step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents; 1st husband, Isaac DeLyser and 2nd husband, Charles Green; siblings: Isaac (Mary) Christiaansen, Johanna (Harold) Blankenberg, Mary (Bob) Van Hover, Abraham (Dorothy) Christiaansen and Catherine (George) Miller; and a great-great grandson, Milo Burchett
