Elizabeth "Betty"Lush
Rockville, MD: Formerly of Palmyra, NY passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the age of 88. She was predeceased by her husband Norman and her son Scott. Betty is survived by her son Noren of Honolulu, HI; daughter Tracy of Washington, DC; daughter-in-law Debbie Lush of Walworth, two granddaughters Kelly Lush and Julie (Sean) Deshotel, great-granddaughter Lucy and beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Elizabeth "Betty" Cook, the youngest of Samuel and Naomi Cook's four children, was born on December 13,1925, in Macedon New York. Betty graduated from Palmyra Classical High School in 1944 and went on to attend Buffalo State College, where she received her B.A in education.
On August 19, 1950, Betty married Norman Lush and they began what would be 60 years together as husband and wife. By 1959 their three children, Noren, Scott, and Tracy, had been born.
After 29 years of teaching—which she loved— at Palmyra Elementary School, Betty retired in 1983. She and Norm made the most of retirement, spending winters with friends in Florida and traveling to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and across the continental United States and Canada.
Betty most enjoyed spending time with family and friends who will miss her kindness, caring, intelligence, and sense of humor.
Friends are invited to join the family Friday, January 24, from 4:00-7:00 PM at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 123 East Jackson St. Palmyra, NY. Betty's funeral service will be held Saturday, January 25, at 11:00 at the Palmyra Reformed Church, 232 Canandaigua St., Palmyra, NY. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery.
