"Ernie:

Palmyra:  Passed away on April 8, 2015 at the age of 94.  Ernie was born on June 11, 1920 in Rochester, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Nagel; daughter, Elaine Scherer; son, Gary Saffran; and siblings.  Survived by her son-in-law, Walter Scherer of Palmyra, NY; daughter-in-law, Carol of Pittsford, NY; grandchildren, Susan Taylor of Lyons, NY, Sandra Orlopp of Lyons, NY, Ann (Tim) Vollertsen of Palmyra, NY, Deborah (David) Mollenkopf of Ovid, NY, Walter G. Scherer III of Florida, Gina Crockett of Penfield, NY, Laurie Saffran of Webster, NY and Gary (Karen) Saffran of Webster, NY; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Ernie was born in Rochester, NY and worked for Manhattan restaurant, before moving to Palmyra, NY, 40 years ago. She attended and was very active in the Palmyra United Methodist Church. One of her favorite trips to take was to Las Vegas with her husband, Norman. Together, they would enjoy watching horse races. Ernie would always look forward to playing poker and holiday games with her family. While living in Wayne County Nursing Home, she would stay active and join in euchre, dominos and Yahtzee games. Sports were a favorite of Ernie, including figure skating in the Olympics, golf and football. "Dancing with the Stars" was one of her favorite television shows to watch.  Although Ernie enjoyed many activities, she really enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed life to the fullest and always had a smile on her face.

Friends and family are invited to visit, on Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 11AM to 1PM where a brief prayer service will follow, at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 123 East Jackson St., Palmyra, NY. Interment will be private at White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford, NY.  Memorial contributions in memory of Ernie may be made to the Palmyra United Methodist Church, 109 Church St., Palmyra, NY 14522 or American Diabetes Association, 160 Allens Creek Rd., Rochester, NY 14618 .  Condolences may be left at www.murphyfuneralservices.com .
