Buddy cat and Daisy cat miss him and look for him to come to bed.
He was an altar boy, attended school at St. Stanislaus, Aquinas High School and Clarkson College where he earned his electrical engineering degree. He was a time Union paperboy all through high school. He played any kind of sport on St Stanislaus Street and at Carter Street Playground.
Upon college graduation Stromberg Carlson sent him to Alaska to work with the AirForce at Elmendorf and thoroughly enjoyed the work as well as golfing in long day light. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, returned to Stromberg and then to Howard Beech. While he enjoyed his work associations, a big interest was golf and he remained an active player well into his 80's, playing almost every course in the county. He belonged to Mendon CC (aka Green Hills CC) and Savanna Club in Florida. He enjoyed his foursomes, leagues, 'settling up the money after' and gin games. He was a sports loving person favoring the Red Sox, Red Wings, Bills, Syracuse U bb, Sabres and any high school game a family member would be playing in. He was a really good jitterbugger, roller bladed better than the next guy, bowled, country skied, tried pickleball and tennis to suit his wife.
He and June traveled throughout USA and Canada as well as taking many trips to Europe. They often enjoyed professional and high school theatre and music. Gene's interests were often number oriented and he could solve the jumble in his head correctly and quickly. He enjoyed geography and maps and was always interest in the origin of people's names.
Gene enjoyed helping and volunteered at Meals on Wheels, Asbury Dining, Food cupboards, Penfield Lions and as president, and as commander of Melvin Michalski Legion Post #1328.
Gene kept his grammar school friends, golfing buddies, social couples and Legionaries as good friends all of his life. When playing cards, board games or watching sports, he had familiar phrases which became expected such as 'where'd you get that card?', 'play'em like you got 'em' , 'hitting good' or 'didn't show up today'. His philosophy and most helpful expression to his wife and others was, 'it'll all work out'.
Gene was a committed Christian, enjoying church attendance and activities, attending Asbury First UMC, Savanna Club Worship and St Stanislaus Kosta Church.
The family is very grateful and appreciative of all the staff on 7B at Canandaigua VA. Thank you.
A private burial for family was officiated by Reverend Kathy Thiel of Asbury.
