Evelyn Baran   "Cleason"

Palmyra:  Passed away on May 25, 2016, at the age of 90, at Rochester General Hospital with her family by her side. Evelyn, loving mother and grandmother, was born on January 1, 1926 in Palmyra, NY, the daughter of the late Abram and Elizabeth (Faas) Cleason. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Andrew in 2007, and son-in-law James Nittolo in 1998.  She is survived by her children, Barbara (James Hoffman) Nittolo of Pultneyville, NY, Paul Baran of Newark, NY and Jay Baran of Palmyra, NY; grandchildren, Andrew (Maggi) Baran of Chicago, Illinois, David Baran of Rochester, NY and Evan Baran of New York City, NY; brother James (Sandra) Cleason of Canandaigua, NY, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was a graduate of Palmyra High School and Cornell University where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.  While at Cornell, she met Andrew Baran who would later become her husband of 58 years, until his death on October 4, 2007.  Evelyn was involved in the family business, the Abram Cleason Company, for most of her life.  Her father was the founder of the business.  She was very proud of the business and the large number of family that continued that legacy. Evelyn enjoyed living in Palmyra.  She also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Sodus Point, NY.  Both her father, and then her husband, held local town councilman seats.  Evelyn was involved, and supportive, of local politics during those years.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 4-8PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 123 East Jackson Street, Palmyra, NY 14522; where a funeral service will be offered on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 10 AM.
