Floyd A. Sheldon
Farmington: Passed away at his home, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at the age of 93. Floyd was born on August 4, 1922 to the late Albon and May "Gates" Sheldon in Farmington, NY. He is predeceased by his wife Jean. He is survived by his children, Linda S. Doyen, Robert F. (Sharon A.) Sheldon and Penn (Gail) Sheldon; grandchildren, Kurt (Laura) Doyen, Andrea Bogin, Scott Sheldon, Todd (Michelle) Sheldon and Tammy (John) Kutch; great grandchildren Aubrey, Arabella, Ash, Abby, Gracie, Maggie, Justine, Joshua and Tyler; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Floyd was raised on the family farm in Farmington, NY. He would spend his lifetime devoted to the farm that is now entering into its eighth generation. In 1945 he married Jean Ellsworth and together they would raise three children in the same spot that Floyd grew up. Floyd, along with his brother Gardner and family, would continue to farm the land that there family had for multiple generations and raise their families together. Along with farming, Floyd was active in the Farmington Fire Department and was a charter member. He was also a Mason and belonged to the Macedon Lodge and was the past District Deputy Grand Master. Floyd was also active with the Farmington Republican Party and had been involved with the election committee. Floyd and Jean enjoyed traveling. He was a member of the Gold Wing Touring Association and his children say that when given the opportunity he enjoyed tent camping. Floyd was a member of the Farmington Friends Meeting (Church), had been a part of the Magic Squares (square dancing) and a volunteer for over a decade at Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua where he had over 10,000 volunteer hours, and was a part of the Band of Brothers (maintenance crew). Floyd lived a very full life. He leaves a strong legacy for his family. He will be missed but remembered fondly by his family, friends and neighbors.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1040 State Route 31, Macedon, NY 14502, from 2-5PM. A Masonic Service will be held at 5PM at the funeral home. Interment at North Farmington Friends Cemetery will be held privately.
