Gary VanHaneghan

Victor:  Gary was born on Thursday, August 7, 1952 to the late George and Mary Nolan VanHaneghan, and passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025.  Gary had returned home from Thailand, just 48 hours prior to his passing, to reunite with family in the United States. Gary had been courageously battling several health issues when he decided to return home. It was revealed he also had cancer upon his arrival in New York. Despite the challenges he faced, he was determined to return to those he loved most and to spend his final days at home.

Gary spent many years in Thailand where he enjoyed a fulfilling life immersed in beautiful landscapes, local culture, and philanthropic work. Over the years, Gary became known for his efforts in supporting local orphanages and children's welfare initiatives. He worked tirelessly to feed homeless children. Gary dedicated efforts to collecting and distributing eyeglasses and computers to underserved communities. Gary helped advocate and sponsor scholarships for children in Thailand. He supported the importance of access to education, particularly for those facing financial hardships. For Gary, the greatest reward was seeing the smiles of those who received the support they so desperately needed.

Gary was predeceased by his parents George VanHaneghan and Mary Nolan VanHaneghan McRae;   brother Richard VanHaneghan and nephew Richard "Rick" Harby. He is survived by siblings; Marilu (Terry) Buck, James (Margaret) VanHaneghan, and Joanne (Richard) Harby; sister-in-law Margaret VanHaneghan, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11:00am at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1040 State Route 31, Macedon, NY 14502.
