George "Rudy" Zimmerman

Palmyra:  Passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 10, 2026 at the age of 74. Rudy was a devoted husband, father, papa, brother, and friend.  Above all else, he was a family man who loved his family deeply and cherished every moment he could spend with them. He was the man his family turned to for everything, their best friend, their greatest supporter, and someone who could always be counted on to be there when he was needed. 

Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 46 and a half years, Sharon; children, Tim (Kelly Wade) Zimmerman and Andrea (Tim) Herman; grandchildren, Noah, Abby, Jackson, Zac, Landon and Alexander; brother David (Karen) Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Teresa Clark and Kimberly (George) Stanton; five nieces and three nephews. Rudy was predeceased by his parents George J. and Shirley Zimmerman.

Some of Rudy's happiest times were spent with his family. Camping trips together each year created countless memories that his family will carry with them forever.  He loved being surrounded by the people he loved and never hesitated to give his time, help, or heart to those around him. 

Rudy was deeply passionate about the New York State Steam Engine Association, where he was a lifetime member.  He dedicated countless hours to the association and especially enjoyed sawing at the mill during the Pageant of Steam. It was something he took great pride in and an important part of his life. Rudy was also a member of the Saw Filers Association for many years.  His involvement with the association was another reflection of his love for the sawmill, the people he met through the industry, and the skills and traditions that meant so much to him.

For the past eight years, Rudy was proud to work for Westbury Lumber.  He spoke highly of the people he worked with, and truly loved his time there.  He loved every minute of his job and was grateful for the opportunity to work with people he respected and cared about.  

Rudy was an exceptional man who gave so much of himself to his family, friends, his work and the things he loved.  His kindness, strength, generosity and unwavering devotion to his family will never be forgotten.  

He leaves behind a family who loved him more than words can express and who will miss him every day. He was our best friend, and the man we turned to for everything.  He loved his family deeply and did everything he could to be there for all of us.  Though his absence leaves an unimaginable emptiness, the memories he created, the love he gave and the lessons he taught will remain with his family forever.
