Harry E. Matteson

PALMYRA:  Age 79, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Newark, NY to the late Harry & Erthie (Chinberg) Matteson.  He had a passion for old cars, spent many hours of his time volunteering for the veterans through the Palmyra Chapter of the American War Dads, member of the Palmyra Moose Lodge and cherished his family deeply.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Lionel and Karl Matteson and sisters,  Thelma Haskell, Agnes Freer, Aileen VanHorn and grandson, Jason Morf.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Darlene Halsey Matteson; children,  Darla Hasbrouck and Rick (Jody Smith) Matteson, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Linda Halsey and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation on Friday (July 29) from 5-8 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home (Palmyra Chapel), 123 East Jackson St., Palmyra, NY, where his funeral service will be held on Saturday (July 30) at 10 AM.  Interment in St. Anne's Cemetery.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution to his grandson's Jason Morf Pal Mac Dollars for Scholars memorial scholarship or the American Heart Association.  To leave the family an online condolence, please visit www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
