Helen M. Hughson

Ontario- Helen M. Hughson, passed away on December 15, 2022 surrounded by her family.   Helen was an avid learner and held two college degrees; one in Journalism from the University of Missouri and a Maters of Social Work from the University of New Mexico.  In her early career she wrote for the Red Creek Harold covering local stories.  In her later career she worked for 10 years as a social worker in Wayne County.   She enjoyed gardening, reading, cross words, and chatting on the phone.

Helen was born in Kakat, NY, grew up around the Red Creek and Wolcott area.  Eventually she settled down in Ontario, NY where she raised her two daughters, Mary Hughson (Ontario) and Barbara Hughson (Colorado Springs, CO).  She was preceded by her husband, Lester Hughson; mother, Marietta and father, Floyd Neal; brothers, Don, Norman, and Curtis Neal.  She leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear family friends.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 1-3 PM on Sunday (December 18) at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 1961 Ridge Rd., Ontario, NY 14519. Helen's memorial service will be held on Monday (December 19), 12 PM at North Ontario United Methodist Church, 7200 Ontario Center Rd., Ontario, NY 14519.  Helen will privately be laid to rest in Riverview Cemetery.
