IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helena
Saxman-Vanderbilt
April 18, 1935 – May 2, 2025
Williamson, NY: Helena peacefully passed to be with our Lord on May 2, 2025. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by friends and family. Born April 18, 1935, Helena Emerence Verburg, was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Elvira, and her first husband, Richard Saxman. She is survived by her second husband, Richard Vanderbilt, many nieces, nephews as well as cousins in Belgium. Before her retirement, Helena worked as a court reporter for Wayne and Ontario Counties, NY. She first started in the civil and criminal courts and then for Grand Jury. Helena loved to travel and visited most of the states in the motorhome that she and her first husband owned. She also visited her cousins in Belgium where she could still converse in Flemish, her mother's and grandparents' first language. Helena was the consummate woman entrepreneur and ahead of her time. She was a long-time member of the Rotary Club. She kept an elegant house, dressed to perfection, and hosted fabulous dinner parties. Her hobbies included ballroom dancing both as dancer and instructor. She was a talented seamstress and made her own ball gowns. Helena loved animals and actively supported the Humane Society for many years, often adopting dogs that had been abused. Finally, she found love a second time. Her marriage at age 87 to second husband, Dick Vanderbilt, was initially delayed by the Covid pandemic. However, as soon as it was possible, they married and then traveled the world together. Helena lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all. Helena's funeral service will be held on Saturday (May 24), 10 AM at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 1130 Webster Rd., Webster, NY 14580. Helena will be laid to rest in Ridge Chapel Cemetery, Williamson, NY. To leave the family an online condolence, please visit www.murphyfuneralservicves.com.
