IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Homer L.
Vander Molen
March 26, 1937 – December 12, 2025
Homer Vander Molen, of Macedon, NY, passed away on December 12, 2025 at the age of 88 years old. Born and raised in Macedon, NY, he was a husband, son, brother, father, Opa, Uropa, uncle, great uncle, and friend to many. Homer was the son of Cornelius and Dorothy (Kingsley). In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers David and Ernest Vander Molen; and loving family members, Al Neu and Meg Vander Molen.
Homer is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gertrud Vander Molen. He was a father to three daughters, Nancy Vander Molen, Donna Neu, and Linda (Michael) Marchionda; Opa to five grandchildren, Kristopher (Erica) Leckinger, Sarah (Lance-Eric) Baker, Eric Neu, Maria Marchionda, and Angela Marchionda; Uropa to two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Baker and Lincoln Baker; brother to Loraine Compton (Gene); uncle and great-uncle.
As a young man, Homer considered his options for the future and joined the Army. After bootcamp in Colorado, he was stationed in Germany shortly thereafter. It was there that he met his beautiful wife, Gertrud. He knew the moment that he saw her that he was going to marry her. They indeed did marry and had 67 wonderful years together; a number he loved to tell everyone he met. Together they had a family, enjoyed camping throughout the US, traveled to Germany and through Europe, and had a shared passion for gardening. In the summer, they could be found in their expansive garden from early morning to supper time. They enjoyed sharing their bounty with family and friends.
In retirement, Homer and Gertrud enjoyed snow birding in Florida. Upon return to New York in the Spring, Homer started counting the days until he went back to Florida. It was his Happy Place. It was there that Homer and Gertrud met numerous friends, enjoyed volunteering for holiday dinners, and were involved in activities that included playing cards, shuffle board, bocce, bicycling, and volleyball.
Homer touched all that he met with his friendly smile and quick wit. He will be deeply missed and is remembered with love.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Wednesday, December 17th at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 1040 Rte. 31, Macedon, NY, where a service celebrating Homer's life will follow at 4:00 PM. Homer will be laid to rest in Macedon Center Cemetery in the Spring.
