Obituary

James Cyril Davis, Jr., known as Jim and Jimmy, passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 8, 2023.  He is survived by Jody, his loving wife of 57 years, his beloved sons James (Jody Madell) of Brooklyn and Jonathan (Julia) of Oakland and granddaughters Eva and Rose. Cherished brothers Richard (Mary Ellen) of Rochester and Will Thomas (Lilly) of France also survive, and brother Philip of Long Island predeceased him. He is survived by cherished brother in law Eddie and sister in law Emily. Dear nephews and nieces, cousins, and wonderful friends near and far were important to Jim.

Jim grew up on Long Island, predeceased by his parents James Cyril Davis and Anita. After graduating from Harpur College (now SUNY Binghamton) and graduate school at the University of Rochester, Jim taught English at Monroe Community College and was active in the MCC Faculty Council. After retiring, he stayed active by working in a friend's house framing business and serving on the Victor-Farmington Library Board. He was an avid and skilled basketball player and is a member of the SUNY Binghamton basketball Hall of Fame. For many years, he enjoyed throwing and glazing pottery, renovating their 1812 farmhouse, reading, and raising their goats. Until Alzheimer's interfered, Jim deeply adored spending time with friends and family who loved him dearly.

His family appreciated the comfort provided by special caregivers Lorrie and Audra as well as many at Ewing Continuing Care Center at the very end of his life.

In lieu of flowers, one might honor Jim by reading a book, donating to the Ontario-Yates Hospice (Geneva, NY) or a library or organization of one's choice.
