James Patrick Murray

Palmyra – Jim passed away on March 10, 2022. He was predeceased his mother, Sarah J. "Devine" Tammany; father, James Murray; stepfather, William T. Tammany; stepmother, Katherine "Ruddy" Murray; and brother, Michael.
Jim is survived by his wife, Debi; sons, Sean and Michael; sisters, Elizabeth Tammany Mezinski, Aggie Tammany Tkac, Mary Murray Koch, Joanne Murray Iverson, Cathy Murray, and Trish Murray Dullinski; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was Cubmaster of Pack 99 BSA Finger Lakes Council. Formerly a Palmyra Volunteer Firefighter and Palmyra Volunteer Ambulance EMT. He was a volunteer with the Department of Veteran Affairs. Jim achieved the 5,000-hour Volunteer hours award in 2021 from the Canandaigua VA Medical Center and VA Finger Lakes Health Care System. He also served on the VA Voluntary Service Executive Committee. Jim received BA service awards and the President's Lifetime Achievement Award from the President of the United States.
He was a member of the Historic Palmyra Pirates Weekend Committee. Jim was a past commander, and life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, and life member of AmVets. He was also a charter member, and life member of VFW Post 6778 men's auxiliary. He served as the Commander of the Wayne County Sons of the American Legion, where he was a member of Squadron 120 and the American Legion Honor Guard.
Jim founded St. Nicholas Ministries, to provide Santa Claus visits, free of charge to government and not for profit organizations. He was a manager/coach for Pal-Mac Youth tee ball.
Jim served as liturgical minister at St. Patrick's Church and the Military Parrish of St. John Fisher at the Canandaigua VA. He was a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, from which he also retired from. He had worked in sales at Rochester Coca Cola, Oak Hill Country Club, and the Town of Perinton Parks and Recreation Department. Over the years, Jim donated more than 5 gallons of blood through the Red Cross.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4-7 PM on Wednesday (March 16) at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 123 E. Jackson St., Palmyra, NY 14522. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Thursday (March 17), 10 AM at St. Anne's Church, 136 Church St., Palmyra, NY 14522. Jim will be laid to rest in Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider doing something for God and Country and support a cause that is important to you.
