Macedon: Died on March 31, 2014 at the age of 81. Born on October 4, 1932 in Poland; Jan is survived by his two children, Kasha Wiranowski and Mark (Melissa) Wiranowski; granddaughter, Zora Wiranowski; sister Marzenka; loving girlfriend Diane Callari and many friends.
Jan lived in Poland during the Nazi occupation and remained until August of 1959. Jan made his way through the Soviet Union and landed in Paris, France in early September of the same year. In 1962, Jan made his way to the United States. Jan lived, first, in Vermont where he received his masters at Middlebury College. Jan spoke fluent french and would find himself teaching it at a local school in Middlebury. Jan also taught at the college. Jan was strong in linguistics as he spoke 8 languages. Upon moving to New York, Jan began to teach at Monroe Community College (MCC) where he stayed up until his death, a career that spanned 47 years. He taught math to many students and his generous philanthropy was indelible.
Jan was very athletic as well. When he lived in Vermont he became a ski instructor, he was a backpacker and enjoyed Winter mountaineering in the Adirondack Mountains. Jan loved the music of the forties, fifties and sixties and enjoyed dancing.
Jan also enjoyed writing and had completed one of the books, Universal (Astro-planetary) Humanism of Hope, just prior to his death. He also wrote another book entitled From Rags to Teaches. Jan had a great sense of humor and will be missed by his family and friends.
Services for Jan will be held privately. Jan had created a couple of scholarships at both Middlebury and MCC. in keeping with this, the family requests that those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jan do so, in his name, to the MCC Foundation, 228 East Main Street, Rochester, NY 14604
