Janet Cone Benedict: Kings Mountain, NC, formerly of Ontario, NY, passed away January 16, 2017 at the age of 77.  She was born on November 8, 1939 in Rochester, New York, a daughter of the late Glenn Carlton Cone and Dorothy Marshall Cone. She was a widow of Ward Norbert Benedict who died in 2014.

Janet earned her Associates Degree from the University of Rochester. She was a former member of the Eastern Star, Ontario Chapter, New York and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ontario, NY. She and her husband, Ward were married more than 53 years and together they moved to Gastonia, NC in July of 1979. She was a homemaker all her life, and a member of the ECA Quilting Club, Gastonia. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church, Gastonia, NC.

Janet is survived by her sons, Michael (Kelly) Benedict of Gastonia, NC and Stephen (Elena) Benedict of Belmont, NC; a daughter, Heather B. (Paul) Tallent of Arab, AL; Grandchildren, Lou Zepeda, Daniel Benedict, Christina Benedict and Benjamin Tallent; one great-grandson, Landon Zepeda; sister, Betty Lou (Lewis) Blowers of WA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday, January 19, 2017, at McLean Funeral Directors Founders Chapel with Rev. Jack Watts officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 pm at McLean Funeral Directors, 700 S. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054. Inurnment will be at a later date in Furnaceville Cemetery, Ontario, NY.
