Bedford, Jean M.

Ontario:  Died on January 24, 2014 at the age of 84.  Jean was born in Ontario, NY to Mildred (Harris) and Glen Gates on August 1, 1929.  She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Don.  Jean is survived by her daughter Nancy (Wayne) Eichorn, and son Scott (Julie) Bedford; grandchildren, Kelly, Kevin, Katelyn and Matthew and great grandchildren Kevin Jr., and Marshall, many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised on her families farm in Ontario, NY; Jean was the youngest of five children.  Her birth came as a surprise as her mother, Mildred, was picking cherries and began to not feel well.  Mildred returned to the house and, shortly thereafter, Jean was born.  One of Jean's sisters, Fern, passed away when she was just two months old.  Jean lost her mother when she was seven years old.  Jean was raised by a hard working farmer and her siblings Leila, Ruth, Luther and his wife Jane.  Jean was married in April of 1951 to Donald Bedford.  Jean was very involved with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for whom she held very dear to her heart and involved herself in their lives as much as she could from the day they were born.  Jean worked at the Wayne Central School Cafeteria, retired, and then helped with Nancy's Day Care for thirty years.  Jean was a life member of the North Ontario United Methodist Church and was involved with many of the church activities throughout the years.  Some of the things Jean loved to do most included playing cards, doing puzzles, playing bingo, going to exercise class and exploring garage sales.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 3-7PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1961 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519.  Jean's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 11AM in the North Ontario United Methodist Church (Brick Church) 7200 Ontario Center Road, Ontario, NY 14519.  Interment in Furnaceville Cemetery.  Memorials in memory of Jean may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.  Online condolences may be made at www.murphyfuneralservices.com .
