IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John S.
Alfano
February 20, 1941 – June 6, 2025
John Sebastian Alfano died peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, after a very brief illness. Born on February 20, 1941, he spent more than eight decades appreciating the simple things in life and loving his family.
John served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. He worked at and eventually retired from the Rochester City School District, having spent most of those years in the Transportation Department. While his kids were growing up, John taught them how to fish, frequented summer drive-in movies with them, and enjoyed camping together at Sampson State Park. He shared his knowledge of mechanics and fixing things. He looked forward each year to hunting with his son.
In 1999, he married the love of his life, Connie, striking gold with their blended families. Johnny and Connie were happy together in the quiet cabin they shared in Prattsburgh, New York. They enjoyed trips to the casino and tours of wineries. They laughed through many meals with Connie's sisters and had adventures with close friends. They also loved the time spent with grandchildren, entertaining them at the cabin in the woods, and cooking hot dogs over a winter campfire.
For the past five years, they have lived in Walworth and liked being closer to family. John kept the vacuum whirring and the floors spotless, all the while humming familiar tunes.
John Alfano was a life-long champion of a good donut.
John will be remembered as a quiet, good man, a calm and steady presence to those who knew him. Though not towering in stature, he was a stand-up guy. While there is some debate about his so-called 20/20 vision, there is unanimous agreement that John Alfano perfected small- batch rice pudding. He lived a humble life and possessed the wisdom that family mattered most.
He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Alfano; their children—Roxanne Cannarozzo and Vincent, Anthony Alfano, Kevin Alfano and Jaime, Lisa Fischer, and Terry Kosciol and Steve; and by their grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Christopher Alfano, and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Gasper and Mary Scalia, and his sister, Vera Bell. Johnny now rests in eternal, loving peace with his cherished grandson, Richie.
Friends may call on Friday, June 13, from 4-6 pm, at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1040 NY Route 31, Macedon, NY. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted at Laurel House Comfort Care Home , 224 Fair Street, Newark, NY 14513. John received outstanding care from the hospice program of Wayne County from his initial home care nurse who also cared for him at Laurel House, to the loving, kind, and exceptional volunteers and nurses at the Home.
