Penfield/Sodus:  Passed away on March 24, 2014 at the age of 83.  John was born on June 21, 1930 to Rosaria and Antonio Barbera in the Bronx.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane; daughter, Michele (Rod) White; 3 grandchildren, Heidi, Darien and Wayne "Danny" White; 3 great grandchildren, Jeramy White, John Steingraber and Maci White; sister, Terri (Ralph) Carrieri; niece, Jane (Gary) Nudelman; other extended family members and friends.

John retired from Exxon Corporation after 35 years of service.  He served our country through the United States Marine Corps. from 1951-1953 and continued as a reservist until 1959. He and his wife moved to the area, from NJ, to be closer to their daughter living in Sodus, NY.  John enjoyed trains and had a collection of HO model trains.  He loved golf and enjoyed bowling.  John was a lifetime New York Yankees fan.  He enjoyed the sounds of Jazz and Big Band music.  John will be missed by his family and remembered fondly.

Friends and family may visit on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 10-noon, where a service will follow visitation, at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1961 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519.  Interment will take place at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus, NY on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 1PM.  Please meet at the entrance to the cemetery at 12:45PM.  Military honors will follow a brief prayer service.  Memorials in memory of John may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
