In Loving Memory of John “Jack” LaLonde
It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce the sudden passing of John “Jack” LaLonde, age 89, of Newark, NY, on May 24, 2026.
Jack was born in Clayton, NY, on June 28, 1936, to John H. LaLonde and Margaret Pilon. He and his first wife settled in Macedon, NY, where they raised their four daughters.
Jack was a self-made man in every sense of the word. After many years at Xerox, where he worked his way up through hard work and determination, he took early retirement and began a new chapter as the owner of LaLonde Realty. Over the years, he built and developed a trailer park in Newark, NY, owned multiple real estate properties, and was always happiest when he was working, fixing something, or starting a new project. Even later in life, Jack could often be found tinkering with equipment, staying active, and doing things his own way.
More than anything, Jack will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and the way he treated people. He was a true “pay it forward” kind of man. If someone was struggling, Jack helped. He often gave renters extra time to get caught up, offered a hand when someone needed it, and believed in giving people a chance. He never met a stranger, and people were naturally drawn to him. Jack had a way of making others feel welcome, valued, and cared for.
He was deeply loved by many, including his beloved companion, Donna Vanderlike, who brought companionship, care, and joy to his life.
Jack is survived by his daughters, Diane LaLonde Hasso (Brian Starkweather) and Julie LaLonde (Brenda Sanchez); grandsons Eric Hasso (Michell Boudreaux) and Alan Hasso (Ashley Hasso); great-grandchildren Lylah Hasso, Maverick Hasso, and Sterling Hasso.
He was preceded in death by his daughters, Shelly Koeberle and Jacqueline Akins; his former wives, Barbara Ribis LaLonde Gee and Linda Lord; his sister, Vada Tidd Palmeri; his parents, John H. LaLonde and Margaret Pilon Cotter; and his half-brother, Rick Cotter.
A graveside service was held at Palmyra Cemetery in Palmyra, NY, on May 28, 2026.
A celebration of Jack’s life is planned for June 20, 2026, at the Phelps American Legion. The gathering was originally planned as his 90th birthday celebration, and it will now be a time to honor the life of a hardworking, generous, unforgettable man who was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
