Joseph H. Mack

Macedon, NY:   Joseph peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020.  He was predeceased by his wife, Helen.  Joseph is survived by his children, Catherine (Richard) Wilson, Dr. Daniel (Kim) Mack, Thomas (Vivian) Mack, Barbara Perkins, Mary (Ron) Darcangelo and Sharon Cooper; his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joseph was born in Niagara Falls, NY on January 18, 1925. Joe grew up in Endicott, NY. Upon graduating from Union Endicott High School, in 1942,  he was hired by IBM as a machinist. In April 1943 Joseph became an active army soldier after training at Fort Leonard Wood. Joseph served with the 28th Infantry division, 112th Regiment, Company K and was part of the second wave into Normandy arriving on Omaha beach. The 112th Infantry fought through the hedgerows of France and were part of the breakthrough that eventually liberated France. He was part of the famous parade through the Arc de Triumph in Paris, August 29, 1944.  Joseph continued combat fighting and participated in all five major battles of the Bulge including Hurtgen Forest, Germany and the Rhineland. Joseph was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, European Campaign medal with Silver Star attachment, WWII Victory medal, Honorable Service lapel pin, Expert Badge for Bayonet and Rifle, Sharpshooter badge for Carbine and Grenade and most recently the French Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.

After the war, Joseph went back to working at IBM. He attended Business School and became manager. He met his beautiful wife Helen who was working as an industrial nurse at IBM. In October 1946 the couple wed, and later had a total of six children. Joseph worked for IBM for over forty years. Upon retirement Joseph entered the Roman Catholic Deaconate program and was ordained Deacon in Charlotte, NC in May 1983.

In his words: "I served my country, I served my family and I am now serving God".
