Ontario – Larry passed away on November 21, 2024 at the age of 89. Born to the late Norman and Tekla Smith, Larry was predeceased by his grandson, Noah Kaforey.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Suzanne Smith; his children, Linda Smith, David (Bernice) Smith, Lisa (Ray) Kaforey, and Steve (Kelly) Smith; and his grandchildren, Allison (Paul), Ariane (Uly), Mariana, Thomas, Rebecca (Bill), Megan (Matt), Nicholas (Izzy) and Michael . He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Blake, Savanna, and Zander; his sister, Norma Burton; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 as a machinist mate, proudly serving with the Mediterranean fleet onboard the destroyer escort USS Carpellotti.  After his service, he worked alongside his father in the family auto repair shop before beginning a 35-year career at RG&E in 1959, where he eventually retired as Operation's Supervisor at the Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in 1994.

Following his retirement, Larry followed his dream to the St. Lawrence River, where he enjoyed cottage life, fishing, and boating. He and Sue also traveled extensively, attending numerous USS Carpellotti Navy reunions.

Above all, Larry was a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather.  His gentle spirit and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service for Larry will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 11AM at North Ontario Methodist Church, 7200 Ontario Center Rd., Ontario, NY 14519.  In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Larry may be directed to the church, or Pines of Peace at 2378 Ridge Road, Ontario NY  14519.
