Sonia always put other people first, with her actions and with her heart. She is survived by her family, Ruy and Herionides, many nephews, nieces, cousins, many Duffy generations, and her husband, Peter. She navigated the two worlds of the U.S.A and Brasil and thrived in both. Sonia excelled as a polyglot mirroring her exceptional professional talents in mathematics and finance. And she loved dogs!

So, when you hear some sweet Bossa Nov, Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, or the notes of “Garota de Ipanema”, please do a little dance with or hug your favorite person next to you. And if you are alone, sitting in an office, airport or the aire libre when you hear the notes, let your feet dance, smile, and know that Sonia is there clapping her hands, laughing, dancing with you (and be sure she is giving you some beautiful advice of how to move with the motions of this samba we call Life.)

Always learning, loving, sharing and creating the feijoada in the cocina of our souls. Saudade e te amo sempre.

Family and friends may gather from 10AM-11AM on Saturday, September 5th at St. Anne’s Church, 136 Church St., Palmyra, NY., where Sonia’s Memorial Mass will be offered at 11AM. Reception immediately following in the church hall.
