Farmington: Went to Heaven on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the age of 86. Mary was born on May 30, 1928 , in N. Hornell, NY, the daughter of Lottie M. Bossard and Frank H. Smith. Predeceased by her husband Eugene in 1989; sons, Edward F. in 2012 and Brian E. in 1994; granddaughter, Mary Beth Jackson in 2005; grandson, Kyle Paul Jackson in 1982 and brother Ernest G. Smith of Canisteo, NY. Survived by her sons, Allen (Betsy) Jackson, Richard (Debbie) Jackson, Gary (Tina) Jackson and Kevin ( Barb) Jackson; daughters, Cheryl Jackson and Susan (Randy Mathes) Everett, Barbara Johnson companion of Edward; 28 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Mary attended Canisteo Central Schools and graduated in 1945. She was married on June 2, 1951 in Rochester to Eugene G. Jackson. Mary and Eugene moved to Farmington, NY in 1960. Mary devoted a lot of her time to the family genealogy and had 12 books published. She enjoyed music, especially country and spiritual. Mary enjoyed watching programs starring John Wayne, or Lucille Ball. She was an avid watcher of the television series The Golden Girls. Mary enjoyed various crafts, including making Christmas ornaments, knitting, crochet, and quilting. Cooking was also an activity that Mary enjoyed and her family remembers her hamburg soup and macaroni and cheese as two of her special dishes. Mary enjoyed her family, it was very large, but she found time to enjoy and develop relationships with each member. One of the last photos that Mary had taken of her was a few days prior to her passing away, with the newest edition to her family, great grandson Mitchell Sharkey, Jr. Mary will also be remembered for her volunteer work in helping to raise money and awareness of autism.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 1 to 3PM, with a funeral service following at 3PM, at the Light House Baptist Church, 1000 South Main Street, Newark, NY. Interment will take place in the Spring at the North Farmington Friends Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Mary may be directed to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Road, 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540, or, Make a Wish Foundation, Brighton Commons, 1855 Monroe Ave., Rochester, NY 14618.
