Mary Sue (Moss) Tomkinson, age 66, of Farmington, New York, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026.
Born in Tonawanda to the late Richard and Geralda (D’Orazio) Moss, Mary Sue was a graduate of Penfield High School and SUNY Canton. She built a successful career at Fairport Baptist Home and Monroe One BOCES, where she formed many lifelong friendships.
Mary Sue had a gift for making others feel cared for, most notably through her love of cooking. She was known for preparing countless delicious meals, each made with thoughtfulness and heart. She found joy in the simple, peaceful moments, especially at her family’s cottage on Sandy Pond, where she was often found reading on the boat, fishing at her favorite spots, sharing conversation while taking in the scenery, and always enjoying the picturesque sunsets.
She always made the holidays feel extra special, filling her home with carefully chosen winter décor and giving the most thoughtful, heartfelt gifts. Above all, Mary Sue cherished time spent with her family, friends, former students, and beloved pets, as well as attending concerts and gatherings that brought people together.
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Geralda Moss, sister, Pamela Moss, brother-in-law, Billy Kelly, niece, Christine Buckingham, and other extended family members.
Mary Sue is survived by her son, Dan Tomkinson (Amy Coron); her partner, John Cushman; her brother, Greg (Barbara) Moss; her sister, Cindy Kelly; her niece, Lisa Kelly; her nephews, Kevin Kelly and Nicholas (Inggrit) Line; as well as many cousins, dear friends, and her beloved dogs, Hattie and Dixie.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Mary Sue throughout her courageous battle with cancer, and to her care teams for their compassion and dedication.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 8 at 2:00 PM at Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapels (1040 NY-31, Macedon, NY 14502), with a celebration of life to follow at White Brook Nature Area Lodge (250 Aldrich Rd, Fairport, NY 14450).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Sue’s memory to East Coast Adoption Agency or The Arc of Monroe.
