IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Miriam (Horwood)
Hart
August 30, 1937 – October 4, 2024
Florence Miriam Hart, 87, of Macedon, NY, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024.
Miriam was born on August 30, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Aubrey and Florence (Burden) Horwood who both immigrated to Boston from Carbonear, Newfoundland.
Miriam is predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald Norton Hart. Miriam met Ron at a Salvation Army event in Everett, Massachusetts and were married in 1957. Together, they entered the Salvation Army School for Officer Training in Bronx, New York from Chelsea, Massachusetts. They were Commissioned and Ordained in June 1959. Their love for their Lord motivated them in ministry where they served communities in Rhode Island, Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and served as chaplains for the Salvation Army Retirement Community in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Miriam and Ronald retired as Majors in the Salvation Army and moved to Florida in 2000. Miriam moved to Macedon in 2020 to be closer to family. Miriam celebrated her New England roots. She enjoyed lobster, watching the Waltons, camping with the Spencer family, traveling with her sister Carol, spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and passing along a Christmas dessert recipe known to be "Horwood Surprise". Growing up, her children cherished the evening practice of gathering around the dinner table to read promises from God's Word, and finishing the time with prayer. One of her favorite scripture verses is, "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." Joshua 1:9
Miriam is survived by her devoted children, Douglas (Judy) Hart, Gary (Beth) Hart, Robert (Lillian) Hart, Susan (Philip) Wittenberg, Carol (Mark) Holden, Kelly (Thomas) Pengelly, daughter-in-law Wendy Hart, twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and her sister Carol (Earl) Edens.
