Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family of Morgan Arthur Smith (Onesimus) of Rochester, NY announces that he has fallen asleep in the Lord on November 9th, 2024 at the age of 70, after a valiant battle with cancer. Morgan was born February 15, 1954 in Batavia, NY, the son of the late Donald and Joan Smith.

He was a 1972 graduate of Alexander Central School and a 1976 graduate from SUNY Geneseo NY. He went on to be an optical engineer at Kodak for 35 years and then worked another 8 years at Rochester Precision Optics, before he retired in 2021.

Morgan was happily married to Lynae, who was his partner in life, for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, his son Mike (Elyse Fredericks) Christman and grandson Wesley Christman. He is also survived by his godfather Steve Merowsky, and godsons, Eric Berardi and Elliott Markle. Additional survivors include his five sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Morgan was an active member of the Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church. He found extraordinary love for his fellow parishioners, and it brought him great joy and unshakable faith to be a member.  Morgan was a voracious reader, and avid outdoorsman.  Other hobbies include crossword puzzles, swimming, biking, sailing, canoeing, hiking and camping.  Morgan was nicknamed MacGyver for his ability and willingness to fix anything.

Morgan's funeral church service is scheduled for Saturday November 16th at Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church, located at 855 S. Goodman St. Rochester N.Y. The liturgy starts at 10:00am, with the funeral service beginning at 11:30am. A burial service will follow at the Furnaceville Cemetery in Ontario, NY 14519. Morgan's "Celebration of Life" will be on Sunday, November 17th, from 2 to 4 pm at the Newport Yacht Club located at 694 Seneca Rd. Rochester, NY 14622.
