IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nancy C.
Herendeen
January 22, 1930 – September 8, 2024
On Sunday September 8, 2024, Nancy went home to be with her Lord in heaven and to join her beloved husband, Allen. Nancy was 94. Nancy was born in Rochester to Leslie and Dora Allard, both deceased. Nancy is survived by her brother, Donald Allard. Her brothers Roger Allard and Charles Allard are both deceased. The family moved several times and landed in Walworth where Mom graduated from High School. The story told is there were dances at a dance hall in Walworth. Allen and his brother George and Chuck Hurley headed over there one week and Allen met Nancy, the rest is history. They married on September 2, 1950. Allen and Nancy began their family in the following year, giving birth to 4 children in quick succession. Nancy is survived by her children, Kathleen Suhr, Carol (Steven) Zientara, David Herendeen, and Ronald (Donna) Herendeen. She is survived by her grandchildren, Raya (Michael) Plate, Aaron Suhr, Carrie (Richard) Parmeter, Angela (Norris) Knight, Michael (Valeena) Herendeen, Jennifer Herendeen, Marianne (Thomas) King, Kevin Herendeen, Jill Norsen and Matthew Norsen, Nancy was proud of her family and enjoyed the many family get-togethers over the years. She has been greatly blessed to have been given the longevity to see many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren come into the world. She enjoyed playing with a baby on her lap no matter what season of life she was in. Nancy is survived by brothers-in-law Nathan (Berneice) Herendeen, Stanley (Karen) Herendeen, Henry Brouse, and sisters-in-law Joanne Herendeen and Emma Herendeen. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins with whom she has enjoyed many family reunions over the years. Nancy belonged to the Farmington Friends Meeting where she was an active member serving in the choir, the bell choir, Sunday School, Corner Class, and the United Society of Friends' Women. Nancy and Allen were active members of the Eastern Star and Masons. While Allen was active in the Farmington Fire Department, Nancy was active in the Ladies Auxiliary, spending time during the summer months marching in the parades and serving hot dogs or fish fry at the Farmington Carnival. Nancy was active alongside Allen and their children in the Grange. Nancy and Allen joined a Western Square Dance group with friends, where they dressed in Western square dance attire and possibly was a little of a challenge for Allen, yet lovingly done for Nancy. Nancy had a love for music, instilled in her by her mother who was an excellent pianist and an Uncle Earl who played the violin. She encouraged her own children in learning their instruments and in learning to sing. She would often get her clarinet, gather her children and their instruments around the piano to play together. Nancy loved to gather her children around the piano, particularly during the holidays, to sing Christmas Carols together. At other times, it would be the old hymns or folk tunes that would be played or sung. Being a farm wife, Nancy spent the summer canning and freezing fresh fruits and vegetables for use during the long winter months. Nancy did find time to plant some flowers in the spring, often in places Allen would tell her would never grow there- too much gravel, yet Nancy would get them to grow! It was busy on the farm so when opportunities came for time to get away for a time, Nancy enjoyed camping with Allen, her children and sometimes, also with other family members or friends. Nancy would stay in touch with anyone she met in her travels, often sending cards with hand-written notes every Christmas and on birthdays or anniversaries or just because she wanted to. Nancy lived a long life filled with family, friends, and acquaintances.
Please join her family on Saturday September 28th at 11:30am at the North Farmington Friends Cemetery for a graveside service, followed at 12:30 pm by a Celebration of Life Service at Farmington Friends Church.
