IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman
Taylor
January 11, 1935 – January 23, 2026
Mr. Norman Richard Taylor (Normie), 91, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris, NY. A beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many, Norman lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, creativity, and deep devotion to his family and community.
Born on January 11, 1935, in Utica, New York, Norman was the son of Olivine and Ambrose Taylor. He graduated from Sauquoit Central School in 1953 and soon after answered the call to serve his country. Norman enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served until receiving an honorable discharge in 1958. Following his military service, he continued supporting national defense efforts as a radar technician at Griffiss Air Force Base, until his retirement in 1995.
On February 20, 1960, Norman married Janice Gail Endemann at St. Helena's Catholic Church. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter over the course of their 59-year marriage, until Janice's passing in 2019. Their enduring bond was a testament to their shared values and unwavering commitment to one another.
Professionally, Norman was a skilled residential electrician who worked for himself throughout adulthood. He also contributed his talent as a construction electrician through many years of membership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). His dedication extended beyond his career into civic life- he was a past member of the Sherrill Volunteer Fire Department and actively participated in both the Sherrill American Legion Post 230 and Oriskany Falls American Legion Post 569. Additionally, he served on the St. Mary's Church Council in Clinton, NY.
Norman had an endless list of hobbies that reflected his zest for life and boundless energy. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, racquetball, woodworking, reading, coaching youth basketball teams, and most especially entertaining his grandchildren. In his later years, he discovered a passion for writing humorous and thriller short stories- three of which were formally published: "Beverly's Bicycle", "The Ragman", and "The Chop Shop". His storytelling brought joy to many and showcased his wit and imagination.
Those who knew Norman will remember him as warm- hearted and endlessly friendly-a true jokester who lit up every room he entered. He was often described as the life of the party, with an infectious laugh that could lift spirits instantly.
Norman is lovingly remembered by his children Kimberly Brooks (Stephen Brooks), Robin Schunk (Mark Schunk), and Jeff Taylor (Kristina Taylor); his bother Robert Taylor (Marium Taylor); grandchildren Erin Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Shannon Brooks, Brianna Dougherty, Justin Schunk, Ryan Taylor, and Kelly Taylor; great grandchildren Anna Schunk, Caleb Dougherty and Cora Dougherty; as well as another great-grandchild expected this August.
He was predeceased by his cherished wife Janice Gail Endeman-Taylor siblings Gloria Locke, Joan Leogrande, and Lanny Taylor.
A celebration of Norman's life will be held in the Spring at a date and location to be determined.
May the memory of Mr. Norman Richard Taylor (Normie) bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire those whose lives he touched with humor, kindness, and unwavering love. To share a special memory please visit www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
