Raymond (Ray) A. Rugg, Jr passed away August 12, 2026. Ray was predeceased by his father, Raymond A. Rugg, Sr; mother, Helen A. (Mehlenbacher) (Rugg) Hopper; stepmother, Jean (Pilbeam) Rugg; stepfather, Harold Hopper; wife, Sharon (DeLong) Rugg; and brother, Justain Rugg.
He is survived by his children Sarah Parshall, Russell (Alina) Rugg, Christopher (Alexis Dora) Benson, Shawn Benson, Marcy (Steve) Knapp, and Michelle (Rick Moody) Duchowny; grandchildren, Brett (Heather) Parshall, Cassandra (Andrew) Breitsprecher, Felicia Parshall, Zachary Parshall, Annie Benson, Xavier Benson, Dean Benson, McKinzie Benson, Chloe Benson, Greggor Benson, Liana Rugg, Colton Duchowny, Mitchell Duchowny, Shony Duchowny, McKenna Niedhammer, and Andrew Hann; and great grandchildren, Charles Breitsprecher, Margaret Breitsprecher and James Breitsprecher. Also brothers, Miles (Donna) Rugg, Keith (Maria) Rugg, and Lennie (Donna) Rugg; sisters, Starr (Elwood) Balliet, Regina (Sam Oswald) Rugg, Kittie Palmer, and Nettie Rugg; and stepsisters, Marie (Pete Crespo) Stivers and Patty Artley; stepbrother, David Daggett; foster brother, Billy Williams; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Ray graduated from Victor Central High School in 1976. While at Victor, he attended BOCES in the auto body program they offered. Ray worked most of his career in the moving industry for big moving companies such as Global Van Lines, Bekins, and Mayflower. He was an expert at moving any type of furniture or equipment.
Ray enjoyed wrestling and his favorite wrestler was Hulk Hogan. As a teenager, he became a ‘backyard’ mechanic and could easily take motors apart and put them back together. Ray also did metal scrapping and he did that to help support his family. Ray loved to be outside and especially loved playing horseshoes.
The family would like to thank all the staff at The Highlands of Brighton, skilled nursing facility, for the wonderful care they have given Ray his last few years.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray’s name can be made to The Highlands of Brighton - Ellison Park unit, 5901 Lac De Ville Boulevard, Rochester, NY 14618 or the University of Rochester’s Hospice services, 2180 Empire Boulevard, Webster, NY 14580.
Calling hours will be held for Ray on Sunday August 23, 2026, from 2-4pm at the Murphy Funeral and Cremation Chapel, 1040 Route 31, Macedon, NY 14502 and a memorial service will immediately follow at 4pm.
