Robert E. Heckman  "Bob"

Fairport/Macedon:  Passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the age of 88. Bob was born on April 19, 1928 to the late Willard and Augusta "Klaver" Heckman; and predeceased by his sisters; Anna Hess, Mary Holtz and Elizabeth Davis; as well as his brother Willard "Bus" Heckman.  He is survived by his wife Barbara "Cook" Heckman; sons, David (Donna) and Thomas (Katherine) Heckman; grandsons, Joseph (Stephanie) Heckman, Andrew (Kristie) Heckman, Daniel Heckman and Brian Heckman; great grandchildren; Joseph, Ella, Mia and Ivy; extended family; Joelle (Ken) Springer, Bethany (Bradley) McGeary, Jacob (Kourtney) Deisenroth; and their children, Logan, Kayla, Cole, Cora, Jace and Max; sister, Helen Hull; brother, James Heckman; and several nieces and nephews.

Bob grew up working with his family as tenant farmers in the Penfield and Webster area.  Even in his later life he would regularly attend the Empire Farm Days with his brothers.  Bob served our country through the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a truck driver and lineman for the Army Signal Corp.  Following his return from serving his country, Bob began driving truck for the William Stappenbeck Company (known today as Baker Commodities) for 27 years and then worked for the Town of Macedon Highway Department until his retirement in 1992.  Bob liked being outside whenever possible.  He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden during the nice weather and could be found "puttering" in his garage year round.  When the weather kept Bob indoors, he enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Euchre player.  He would play nearly every week with family and friends.  Bob also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and in later years could be found working on one at his apartment at the Heathwood Assisted Living and then in his room at the Fairport Baptist Homes.  He enjoyed his family and especially his grandsons.  He always had them following him around in his garden and his garage working on "special projects".  He made friends wherever he went and always made a point to stop and say "hi" to everyone whenever he entered a room.

Friends and family will gather for a time of visitation on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 4-7PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1040 State Route 31, Macedon, NY 14502. A celebration of Bob's life will take place on Thursday, at 2PM, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 153 Church Street, Farmington, NY (in the Hamlet of Pumkin Hook) 14425.  Interment will be private at Palmyra Village Cemetery, Palmyra, NY 14522. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a donation to your favorite charity in Bob's memory.  To leave a condolence, light a candle, or upload a photo, please visit www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
