Obituary

Robert "Bobby" Charles Spanganberg, 70, passed away on July 21, 2026.  He was laid to rest on July 28, 2026, at Palmyra Village Cemetery in Palmyra, New York.

Bobby was born on June 1, 1956, in Palmyra, New York to Gerald Spanganberg and Shirley (VerPlank) Spanganberg.  His parents were devoted advocates for children with disabilities. Gerald served as president of the newly formed Wayne County chapter of The ARC from 1965 to 1966, reflecting the family's long-standing commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

Bobby is now reunited with his parents in eternal rest.  He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Sandra (Spanganberg) Bastian and her family, and his brother, Jerry Spanganberg and his family.

Bobby lived a quiet, simple life and was deeply appreciated by those who knew him.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and finding joy in life's simple moments.  A gentle and observant soul, Bobby found happiness in watching the world around him and taking in the everyday moments of life.  He will be remembered for his kind spirit, quiet presence, and the memories he shared with family and friends.  In keeping with the family's lifelong commitment to helping others, Bobby's family chose to donate his organs and tissue to other's.  Bobby's life reminds us of the last impact one person can have on the hearts of those who love them.  He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

The family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a celebration of Bobby's life on August 17, 2026, at 10:00 am at his gravesite at Palmyra Village Cemetery, Palmyra, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bobby's memory to The ARC Wayne, 150 Van Buren Street, Newark, NY 14513, 315-331-7741.  This organization held special meaning to Bobby's family because of his parent's lifelong advocacy and Gerald's leadership in helping establish the Wayne County Chapter.  To share a special memory please visit www.murphyfuneralservices.com.
