Roger John Irwin

Fairport, NY:  Passed peacefully at home, with loving family by his side, on February 11, 2025 at the age of 89.  Predeceased by father and mother, Maurice and Dorothy; brother Richard; and son John.  Survived by his wife of 65 years, Judy; son James; sister Joyce (Chuck) McGrath; nephew Sean; daughter-in-law Terry; grandson Adam (Zoë); great grandson Charlie; and extended friends, family and neighbors.

Roger and Judy were happily married for over 65 years; 63 of those on White Oak Lane in Fairport.   With Judy's help, Roger overcame recent health challenges to welcome the arrival of his great grandson baby Charlie.  Roger served as a teacher and administrator in the Fairport Central Schools for over 35 years, and said he looked forward to going to work every day of his career.  Roger was also a Staff Sergeant in the US Army for several years.

Roger was always meeting and chatting with new friends and people wherever he went.  He was an avid boater and fisherman, most often with his buddies at Henderson Harbor on Lake Ontario.  As a youth, Roger grew up on a family farm in North Sterling, NY, which explains his life long affinity for plants and animals.  While he and Judy did not often move, his sons did.  Roger was always excited for the next home search, especially if there was a renovation involved.  Roger also loved to go on cruises and travel with Judy to New York City, Cape Cod and beyond.  Every trip was recorded in detail and lives on in their hand written travel log.

Services for Roger will be private and he will interred at Oakwood Cemetery in Penfield, NY.  For those interested, donations in memory of Roger may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
