Ontario: Roy E. Herrmann, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, surrounded by his family. Roy was born on November 30, 1921 to the late Roy and Lucille Herrmann and was predeceased by his first wife Jody, brother Dwayne "Buzz", and stepmother Runette. He is survived by his wife Mary Catherine "Kay" Herrmann; sons, Mark (Donna), Peter, Edward (Hannah Buxbaum) Herrmann; daughters, Carol (Odis) Allison and Lori Sillato; sister, Sallie (Ron) McQuaid of Waikiki, Hawaii; brother, Gary (Shirley) Herrmann of Millen, GA; 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a large extended family.
Roy attended Cornell University and obtained his Masters degree from Penn State University. Roy served in the United States Army during WWII. He has been an active member and leader in the Ontario American Legion, Post 428. Roy was the owner of Herrmann's Agway in Ontario, NY for 37 years. He was an active community servant who deeply cared for the people of Ontario. A member of the Ontario Town Board for decades; Roy served in the capacity of both Councilman and Town Supervisor. Roy was also active in Wayne County politics. He was the recipient of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2014. Roy was an active Rotarian and often led the group in song. Throughout his life, Roy was drawn to the theater. He acted and directed musicals and shows for the Webster Theater Guild and other local community theatre groups. Roy enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, gardening and his vast stamp collection. He and Kay enjoyed traveling and keeping up with their family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Saturday, February 14, 2015 from 1-4PM at the Murphy Funeral & Cremation Chapel, 1961 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519. A reception will follow at the Ontario American Legion, Post 428, Knickerbocker Road, Ontario from 4:30-7:30PM. A memorial service with interment at Furnaceville Cemetery will take place in the Spring. Memorials in memory of Roy may be made to the Pines of Peace Comfort Care Home, 2378 Ridge Road, Ontario, NY 14519, or to the Pultneyville United Methodist Church, 7770 Hamilton Street, Pultneyville, NY (mailing address is PO Box 23, Williamson, NY 14589).
