Joan passed away on April 8, 2026. She was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Ruth Markulis; sister, Mary Choi; brothers, Emil Markulis, Tony Markulis, and John Markulis.

She is survived by her children, Margaret (Michael) Blythe, Amy (Michael Bowen) Roach, and Julie (Albert Yeh) Roach; grandchildren, Aiden Bowen and Lula Bowen; brother, Pete (Kim Choi) Markulis; sister, Carole McGowan; brother-in-law, Ben Choi; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Markulis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joan was a dedicated nurse specializing in psychiatric care, whose compassionate heart made a lasting impact on the lives she touched throughout her long nursing career. She loved gardening, cooking, travel, and collecting antiques. She lived in Germany and Spain. She cherished time with her siblings (including annual trips to Las Vegas with her sister Carole); and her children and grandchildren brought her much joy. She repeated many times what a wonderful life she had.
